Permafrost slump

We surveyed this rapidly expanding slump, one of hundreds that spanned over ten miles of coast. Three years ago it covered only 1/3 as large an area. As the insulating blanket of vegetated soil breaks down, it exposes thick muddy ice beneath. On these relatively steep slopes the ice is continuously exposed, melting and dripping away on every day that's above freezing.
