Oily Lake

This lake is chewing a big bite out of the edge of Malaspina Glacier. Each year it moves out further and drops down lower as ice melts faster than it's replaced.
— It's called oily lake because when it was mapped it covered at least one very active crude oil spring. Now that spring is far upstream of the lake, and the oil is less obvious. Read more about our Life on Ice expedition.
