Distaplia alaskensis

Nickname: "Red Tips"
— From Herring Island Colonial tunicate Habitat: Rocks, settling plates. Extreme low tide, or mid-low tide deep under overhangs Locations observed: Tunicate settling plates, Waterfall beach (Summer 2016) Descriptions: Loose, gooey, transparent clusters. Orange-yellow zooids with red tips (not all have red tips). Stalk connecting the colony is obvious on little tiny ones on the settling plates, but not always noticeable on the larger clusters. Notes: the ID of settling plate specimens is for sure. My intertidal colonies appear to have the same characteristics, but are larger, so I'm grouping them here.
