Calving from berg in ice

A large berg calved off a much larger berg here.
— Can icebergs calve smaller icebergs? Some icebergs simply melt away, but most break apart multiple times before they're gone. I took this panorama standing atop the giant iceberg I mentioned earlier. Sometime after the ice on the lake formed, but long enough ago that newly formed ice is very thick, the small iceberg near the two people calved off of this one. The force of it falling away was enough to drive it about 100 feet through the lake ice, breaking it like an icebreaker.
