I found you while looking at the Copper River on Google Earth. I miss Alaska so much I have tears in my eyes as I write. I lived there from 99' to 04' and had the experience of a lifetime. I came back to California for family owned business purposes only to get stuck and then get diagnosed with stomach cancer. I want to go back so badly but my finances are not good. Thanks for the stories and pictures. They are wonderful. If I got to leave this earth, I pray God let me see it again with my own eyes.

Hello Erin & Hig -

I've enjoyed reading about your trip. I can't imagine your having much time to answer strangers' e-mail messages, but on the outside chance that you do, I have a question.

I'm considering adding an Alpacka pack raft to my personal fleet of canoes, kayaks, and skiffs. One of my uses would be to ferry between saltwater shore and my anchored skiff. Your photos suggest that you've been careful to do your open water paddling during calmish water.

Have you had any experience using your rafts along an open-water shoreline in breezy southeastern winds when they suddenly gust (as in a williwa)? I'm wondering how much more prone to flipping in a sudden wind gust a loaded pack raft, with its considerable sail area, is as compared with a kayak.
