Ground Truth Trekking: Expeditions to explore environmental issues.

Wildlife Surveys
Both Hig and I are scientists, and where possible, we're planning to compile our observations from the trip in a scientifically useful way. One thing we'll be doing is wildlife surveys.

In these surveys, we will record the large mammals we see along our journey - with location, time, and observations. From this we'll produce maps somewhat like the map above (which is completely fictional - just a demonstration), where each icon represents an animal sighting. In the final version, clicking on each animal will bring up a window with more information from the sighting, and a photo if we managed to get one.

We're looking for other possible surveys we can do along the trip (possibly track surveys, or plant surveys), and would appreciate suggestions. We'll be moving much faster than normal field scientists, so we can't get as detailed of information for any one place. But what we can get is a survey that spans 4000 miles of coast, through many environments and seasons.
