Journey on the Wild Coast Route
This journey will take us from the streets of urban Seattle, through the towering forests of the Pacific Northwest and Southeast Alaska, along the glacier-strewn Gulf of Alaska, to the salmon-rich rivers of Bristol Bay, down the windswept Alaska Peninsula, to the storm-tossed Aleutian Islands.

See our Schedule of town stops and resupplies, or see what's happening on the journey blog To see maps and read more about the route, scroll down.

We'll begin at our Seattle apartment in June 2007, and after a brief few weeks in Washington, spend most of the summer making our way through through British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest. After crossing the border into Alaska, we'll spend the fall in the Tongass National Forest and on the Gulf of Alaska coast. Paddling into Prince William Sound in late fall, we'll switch to skis in Valdez, and head inland through the Chugach Mountains. We'll return to urban realms as we pass through Anchorage, and then head out over another mountain range to Lake Clark. We'll ski down into the Bristol Bay watershed, through the site of the proposed Pebble Mine. Following the windy Alaska Peninsula, we'll hit Unimak Island, the first of the Aleutians, in March 2008. Unimak Island is 12 miles from the next island in the chain. The end of the range of caribou, bears, and packrafts - we can't safely go farther.

This is the route as envisioned before the trip started, in Seattle. In some places, it may bear little resemblance to what we really did/are doing. I'll update it when I have time - for the most recent info, see the blog
