Shadows of spruce


The shadows of spruce trees stretch across this small gully in the low winter sunlight, at the Chuitna Coal prospect.

After sinking into the sparse and weightless snow in Copper Basin, trudging along the Glenn Highway, and failing to paddle Knik Arm, the Chuitna prospect, on the west side of Cook Inlet, was the best skiing we'd had all winter.
